Adrian Escobar, M.S.

Outdoor Recreation Planner, Bureau of Land Management

Growing up on a dairy farm near El Paso, Tx, Adrian spent many hours roaming and playing in the desert with siblings and friends. His passion for the outdoors developed into a lifelong career in conservation and stewardship of public lands. Adrian earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Conservation of Natural Resources from Texas Tech University. During his time at Texas Tech, Adrian assisted in many research projects involving native grassland species, furthering his love of nature and the Texas outdoors.

Soon after graduating from Texas Tech, Adrian was hired as a Natural Resource Specialist with the Bureau of Land Management and moved to Canyon, TX. Adrian attended West Texas A&M University and earned a master’s degree in biology. Adrian studied the influence of water quality and water source design on native ungulate species, while also researching the possibility of reintroducing the black footed ferret onto the Cross Bar Management Area.

Being one of five children in his family, Adrian knew from a young age the importance of community and family. His passion for the outdoors merged with his love of community through his current role as an Outdoor Recreation Planner for the Bureau of Land Management. Current projects include the conservation and natural resource management for the only BLM land in Texas, the Cross Bar SRMA, and giving the public more accessible use of these same lands through the construction of a public access road and multi-use trails. The BLM’s mission is to fully open the Cross Bar SRMA to the public for use of trails, campsites, hunting and other recreation activities. Meeting this goal requires the BLM to collaborate with national partners, local government agencies, and community organizations that are all passionate about the economic, health, and education benefits that opening the Cross Bar potentially brings to the region. Adrian thoroughly enjoys and believes in rich partnerships, complexity of project management, and positive outcomes for the community that surrounds the Amarillo area.

Adrian has been quoted to say, “It’s imperative that we educate and excite young people about the importance and value of our public lands. They will be the ones who inherit our stewardship responsibility going forward,” a quote that is at the core of Adrian’s values: family, community, nature, and education. Because hands on education is paramount for kids to appreciate the natural world the live in, Adrian believes strongly that organizations like WOWW will help advance awareness and provide opportunities for all kids to experience the wider world around them.
